Porsche GT2 RS Rumours Resurface

Posted on 14 January 2010 by Scott

This time in 2009 rumours of a track focused Porsche GT2 RS emerged. A year later, the tantalising tale continues, although it is certainly closer to reality as more details along with spyshots and renderings have emerged.

The Porsche 997 GT2 already packs a punch with its 3,6-litre twin-turbo producing 390 kW and 680 N.m of torque. The GT2 RS will reportedly receive Porsche’s latest 3,8-litre 6-cylinder engine thereby bumping power up to 405 kW or even as high as 425 kW, with upwards of 700 N.m of torque available.

Adding to the Porsche 997 GT2 RS excitement are the weight saving details. Expect sporting equipment to be carried over from the GT3 RS, including the lightweight, centre-locking wheels, carbon-fibre bucket seats, roll cage, lightweight door panels and rear window, as well as an optional lithium-ion battery that saves 10 kg’s alone. Total weight reduction should be between 80 and 100 kg’s.

Exterior changes will include a carbon rear spoiler, wider wheel arches and special colour schemes to highlight the racing orientation of the car. No further details or release date are available at the moment, but expect the veil to be lifted towards the end of the year. In the meantime though, take a look at the spyshots and renderings of what will be the most powerful Porsche 911 ever produced.
