Following the launch of the no-frills new generation Steed 2.2 Single-Cab bakkie in 2010, Great Wall Motors (GWM) has expanded the range to include the Steed 2.2 Single-Cab Lux and the Steed 2.2 Double-Cab Lux.
Tony Pinfold, Chairman of GWM SA says: “With the Steed 3 Series launch, GWM is once again delivering on its promise to provide South Africans with affordable vehicles which effortlessly meet the demands of their unique daily activities.”
All three models are powered by a 2.2-litre fuel-injected petrol engine that outputs 78 kW at 4 600 r/min and 190 Nm of torque at 2 400 r/min. The Steed features a 70-litre fuel tank and although fuel economy figures weren’t available at the time of writing, expect the engine to average around 13 L/100km based on its application in the GWM Pick-Up/Double-Cab range. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
Standard equipment on the new Lux models includes power-assisted steering, remote central-locking, air-conditioning, Radio/CD/MP3-player, front fog lamps and a colour-coded front bumper. The Steed 2.2 Double-Cab is equipped with electrically-operated front windows.
Priced from R109 990, the new entry-level Steed 3 models will appeal to budget-conscious companies and individuals who are looking to enter the bakkie market at a fraction of the cost of the bigger names. All models in the Steed 3 Series come standard with a 3-year/100 000 km warranty and 2-year 24-hour roadside assistance.
