Lexus has announced U.S. pricing for its all-new sports sedan, and based on the figures, it promises much for the Japanese cars arrival in South Africa, before year end. The all-new 2013 Lexus IS sedan was launched in the U.S. to international media and it is being offered from $35 950 for the entry level model, which is the equivalent of R323 500 in a direct currency conversion.

Encouragingly, that figure is 2.1% cheaper than the outgoing Lexus IS model. The base IS250 is still powered by a normally aspirated 2.5-litre V6 making 152 kW but the all-new BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class competitor also comes in 350 form, powered by the much meatier 3.5-litre V6 that makes 228 kW. This IS350 model has been priced in the U.S. at $39 465 and that is the equivalent of R355 185 in a direct currency conversion. This is also cheaper than the outgoing equivalent.

When one turns ones attention to the vast array of standard features on the U.S. specification IS models, it appears as though Lexus aren’t hiding away any nasty, optional equipment, surprises either.  Included in the upfront pricing are HID headlamps, LED daytime running lights arranged in the distinctive new L-shape, paddle shifters for the automatic gearbox, 10 airbags, and next-generation Remote Touch Interface.

An F SPORT Package, costing $3 115 (R28 095) for the IS250 and $3 620 (R32 850) for the IS350, offers an aesthetic upgrade courtesy of a full-mesh grille and front bumper, LED headlamps, 18-inch split 5-spoke wheels, front sport seats, and a more aggressive sport-tuned suspension. The IS 350 F SPORT adds standard Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) with a Sport S+ drive mode.

Inside, the sporty IS models feature the LFA-inspired centre rev counter and a very classy looking interior. We look forward to the arrival of this all-new; Japanese, sports sedan and we hope it will knock the luxury C-segment baton out of its German competitor’s hands.
