Nissan has unveiled a concept car called the IDx Freeflow, and it is a retro-futuristic design inspired by popular Nissan coupes of the past. Amongst the two-doors the Nissan IDx Freeflow Concept uses as a source for inspiration – we can see the Datsun 510 Bluebird, and/or the iconic KGC10 ‘Hakosuka’ coupe.

The modernised and still-diminutive shape would make for a fantastic rear-wheel drive sports car, except Nissan says it will get an engine smaller than 1.5-litres, probably, and a CVT gearbox only. They say this car is less about sportiness and more about taping into the rich history of Nissan and its coupes. Sharp lines and boxy shapes meld with fender flares to create the new concept’s classic look.

A set of large wide-open alloy wheels can be found on the Nissan IDx FreeFlow and the paint job is a retro classic as well where tan and/or beige were favourite colours of the day. No figures on the cars performance have been suggested, or whether they’ll even make such a car. A bit of retro-modern fun is no bad thing and Nissan clearly have no issue bring challenging designs to series production – just look at the Nissan Juke and its wide popularity.
