Quite simply because they can, Mercedes-Benz are going ahead with the GLA 45 AMG, which as far as we can see, is a pointless, pimped out and tarted-up version of their most recent school run crossover. Better still, they’re cutting another inane corner by simply taking the GLA 45 AMG Concept from last year’s Los Angeles Motor Show and rebranding it the ‘Edition 1.’
The Edition 1 model has become something of a phenomenon for Mercedes-Benz AMG cars as they’re used to parlay the most extreme body works and paint jobs possible on unwitting motor show attendees who can’t get enough of such excess. Thankfully the GLA 45 AMG’s 2.0-litre with 265 kW and 450 Nm of torque is unchanged, as is the connection to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission and 4Matic all-wheel-drive. Schnell, schnell mommy.
