Ford Everest launched 2015

Mere hours after revealing the Ford Ranger in Bangkok comes the Ford Everest ready to contest the premium SUV segment. Already it looks to be much better than the previous version with its chiselled rugged design, off-road Terrain Management System and latest Ford technology that we saw in the Ranger. This could cause the Toyota Fortuner endless trouble.

Inside its packs seating for seven and SYNC 2 entertainment with voice control and eight-inch touchscreen. A good sound system includes a subwoofer while other features include blind spot indicator and cross traffic camera alert. Stuff you definitely won’t find in a Fortuner or Trailblazer includes Curve Control – which keeps the Ford Everest level during enthusiastic cornering – and Active Park Assist. We’re also keen to try the Active Noise Cancelling Cabin which Ford claim will make for a quieter cabin.

Off road the Ford Everest should perform just as well as the Ranger; they share identical wading depths, ground clearance is 225mm and low-range can be manually selected. The Terrain Management System provides solutions for Snow/Gravel/Grass and Sand or Rock.

Engines should mimic those found in the Ford Ranger. That means a 3.2-litre 5-cylinder turbo diesel with 147kW/470Nm and a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder with 118kW and 385Nm. Expect big gains in fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

So will the Ford Everest be any good? We think it will be better than that just good and challenge the Fortuner on technology and engine efficiency.
