Mitsubishi Outlander South Africa upgraded for 2015

New grille, bumper, lights?

Not all of the above but Mitsubishi have chucked in additional black and chrome inserts along with silver roof rails and black garnish around the wheel arches. The latest Mitsubishi Outlander still looks great, unmistakeably modern and suitably different to the rest of the conservative Mitsubishi model range.

What’s significant?

Mitsubishi Outlander has a new under-floor stow-away area for more secure storage space and it doubles up as a convenient place to store the tonneau cover, when all seven seats are in place. This has meant that the Rockford Fosgate subwoofer has been voted out – apparently by their customers. The CVT gearbox, linked to the same 2.4-litre petrol engine and 4WD, sees improvements in fuel consumption with Mitsubishi claiming 8.2l/100km. A 4WD Lock Mode increases off-road ability. We particularly like the flip-down entertainment screen for rear passengers.

Early verdict?

The USP of the Mitsubishi Outlander is the seven-seat configuration and 4WD chassis and again that specific niche is where the car once again excels. We have previously complained about the car’s lacklustre performance but relieved that it now uses less fuel for its mega effort. Bluetooth, electric tailgate, keyless entry, heated seats, cruise control and sunroof are included in the price.

The Mitsubishi Outlander is available as standard with a 3-year/ 100 000 km warranty and a 5-year/ 90 000 km service plan, linked to service intervals of 15 000 km. The new Mitsubishi Outlander 2.4 GLS Exceed retails for R439 900 including VAT.
