Bentley consider entering Le Mans with GT3

Bentley has not dismissed rumours that it could enter Le Mans in the future but hints that it will most likely be as a privateer effort rather than as a works team. Standing in their way are the current rules which wouldn’t allow their Continental GT3 compete – certainly not for overall victory which is dominated by the LMP1 class.

Currently there are 17 Continental GT3s built for independent racing teams and Bentley’s Wolfgang Dürheimer has thrown his support behind the project and added that if it was feasible that one could enter the historic endurance race. Wolfgang went on to explain that development in racing would lead into future road cars.

“We like this project very much. With the Continental GT3 as a race car, people realise that it is essentially the same car. It has lightweight construction, new engineering and ideas for the future which our road cars will benefit from. It fits exactly with the image and the approach of the Bentley Boys of the past. It’s gentleman racing, it’s fast and the cars have big, noisy engines.”
