Soon to SA: New Peugeot 2008 PureTech

Soon to be available in South Africa, the first images of the new Peugeot 2008 have surfaced and reveal a host of styling updates that bear little resemblance to those of the 2016 Dakar-winning 2008…

The latest Peugeot 2008 receives a modern grille framed by new LED lights while a sense of toughness is portrayed through new scuff plates and pronounced wheel arches. Above the normal Allure model, GT-Line versions will stand out with 17-inch alloys, a peppering of gloss black finishes and unique badging.

As before the 2008 is fitted with Peugeot’s Grip Control system for greasy surfaces but because the car is strictly front-wheel drive don’t expect it to do much more than adjust some of the car’s traction control parameters.

The real headlines is the improved space; an additional 22-litres found in the boot and with the seats folded flat, space is up from 1194 to 1400 litres. Inside the cabin the 7-inch touchscreen includes Apple Carplay and MirrorLink compatibility while the new Peugeot 2008 is equipped with Active City brake and autonomous Park Assist.

No confirmation on the engine range just yet but there won’t be much reason to bring anything other than the delightful 1.2-litre 3-cylinder PureTech which can be offered in states of tune ranging from 60kW to 95kW. Locally the current 2008 has no automatic option but this is now available overseas and we urge Peugeot South Africa to do likewise.

With so many companies battling the exchange rate, let’s see if Peugeot can bring the new 2008 here at around R350 000. We’ll have more news soon as well as the launch drive impressions.
