Great Wall Motor Company Limited of China, more commonly known as GWM, recently broke the news that they would directly enter the South African motor vehicle market after granting distribution rights to Haval Motors South Africa (Pty) Ltd, an exclusively owned subsidiary of Great Wall Motor Company Ltd, China.
This strategic decision proves the long-term dedication of the GWM brand towards South Africa, and the African continent as a whole. GWM entered the local market in 2007 and has successfully established a dealer network of over 60 dealerships, with over 50,000 vehicles sold in that period.
The main goal of the new distributor is to continue and maintain GWM’s growth as the most successful Chinese brand in Southern Africa. “The South African market plays an important part in our International Expansion Strategy and going forward we will continue to distribute vehicles, offer parts and service support as well as administer warranties through the already established dealer network,” says Charles Zhao, Managing Director of Haval Motors SA.
With the success of its global strategy in mind, GWM China will introduce their premium HAVAL brand into South Africa in the near future through Haval Motors South Africa (Pty) Ltd. HAVAL is a quality range of SUV’s that is believed to be in demand in South Africa, and will offer alternative choices to the already established brands in the SUV segment.
GWM will continue with its massive $1.5bn investment in Research & Development, which has resulted in the sales success illustrated by the huge sales achieved by GWM across the world.
