Car hackers could be arrested for over 30 thefts

Watch as car hackers steal this Jeep Cherokee in less than ten minutes using a laptop and software. Arrests have been made.

Car hacking is becoming a regular feature and poor old FCA group seem to be the victim more often than not. Two hackers have been arrested in Texas after stealing more than 30 Jeep and Dodge vehicles over a 6-month period.

The video shows Michael Arcee and Jesse Zelay attempting to steal this Jeep Cherokee with just a laptop and some special software uploaded through the car’s OBD port. The two men managed to start the Jeep Cherokee in less than ten minutes.

This home surveillance footage has helped police make the arrest but the case is far from over and could lead to the recovery of more than 100 stolen vehicles. At this point  FCA is conducting its own internal investigation but says that the theft is no longer linked to the brand’s once-vulnerable Uconnect system.
