First design renderings of next 2017 KIA Rio

The current KIA Rio has aged exceptionally well; it’s still among our top recommendations in its segment thanks to its blend of style, build quality and well thought out interior proportions. Now a new KIA Rio is on the way and is set to be a humdinger.

The planned reveal at this year’s Paris Motor Show will be a major drawcard to the KIA stand but in the meantime these images are enough to whet our appetite.

KIA says the 2017 Rio has a mix of ‘straight and smooth lines’ and while that’s about as vague as car language goes, we have a lot of faith in the Korean company’s styling acumen. The latest version of Rio projects a global design; the Namyang factory in South Korea is supported by KIA design centres in Germany and California. Already the longer front overhang, longer wheelbase and upright C-pillar are distinguishing features of the new KIA Rio.

We’ll bring you more details on the new KIA Rio after the Paris Motor Show where hopefully we’ll have some insight into what engines will be available and whether the South African lineup will mimic the international range.

With more than 473 000 KIA Rio models sold, making it the brand’s best-selling car, KIA will need to offer some perky engines and increased connectivity options if it wants to stay at the top.
