Racy carbon dress is inspired by BMW i8

The extravagant world of fashion takes its inspiration from time to time from the car industry and the end result in most cases is quite odd.

That being said, Daniela and Annette Felder working at their London-based design studio Felder Felder have come up with an unusual dress serving as the highlight of their 10th Anniversary Collection.

All of the pieces are made from up-cycled and sustainable fabrics and the hero piece is known as the “Carbon Dress.”

Influenced by BMW “i” line-up of eco-friendly models, the metallic grey skater dress required more than 100 hours of work to complete and 97% of the material used was carbon.

It is rather interesting thanks to its unique texture mimicking the finish of BMW’s i3 & i8 duo of alternatively-powered cars.

In the words of Daniela and Annette Felder:

“The carbon fabrics are amazing and unlike anything we’ve used before – we are honored to be given access to them before anyone else. The woven fiber allows us to do more with the designs and push the boundaries of sustainable fashion. It adds amazing structure and the frayed carbon looks so great as tassels. We can’t wait to show everyone the collection.”

The shine of the material make the special dress look even more spectacular, and according to the German twins, it’s also “more tactile and daring compared to other fashion fabrics.”

Interestingly, the material used to create the carbon dress was made at the exact same location where BMW produces the carbon fiber for the i3 plug-in hybrid / electric model and the i8 plug-in hybrid sports car.

Just like the other pieces of the collection, the carbon dress exhibits the fashion label’s rock n’ roll style and features flash electric motifs.

All pieces of the 10th Anniversary Collection were showcased during a VIP dinner last week in London and marked the second year of collaboration between Felder Felder and BMW i.
