McLaren’s new 650S is not a secret anymore

The first batch of spyshots revealing the new McLaren 650S replacement have emerged!

A closer look at the images show major modifications to the bodywork that have never been featured on any other McLaren.

650s

For example, the prototype features a cut-out in the front, indicating that the headlight’s have been separated from the LED daytime runners with redesigned air intakes below. The back of the prototype sports a more chiseled shoulder line reminescent of the 570S and oval shaped exhausts borrowed straight from the big brother 675LT. Essentially, the 650S replacement will be exactly what it was meant to be; the halfway point between the 570S and the 675LT, and the design language will communicate that clearly.

The 3.8-litre twin turbo engine from the current McLaren 650S should live to see another day in the replacement model, although a power bump from 478kW to around 497kW, as seen on the 675LT, is expected if it wants to compete with the major rivals in its sector, like the younger and more powerful Ferrari 488 GTB.

Weight reductions will come courtesy of McLaren’s famous carbon fibre monocoque and improved aerodynamics. It hasn’t been confirmed if the 650S name will continue to the new model, although we can expect a new name to correspond with the power improvements.
