The 294kW Audi RS3 relegates A 45 AMG to second

The A45 AMG is no longer the top dog. At least as far as power output is concerned. The new Audi RS3 Sportback was recently unveiled by Audi, boasting a power output of 294kW (that’s 29kW than the A 45 AMG).

Producing all that power is the same 2.5L TFSI engine that you’ll find in the latest Audi RS3 sedan. That means 480Nm of torque from just 1700 RPM right through to 5850 RPM. The result? 0-100 km/h in a claimed 4.1 seconds. Find your way through the dual-clutch 7 speed transmission and you’ll be doing  an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. Should 250 km/h not be enough for you, on request, Audi will increase that limit to a brisk 280km/h. Of course, the quattro all-wheel-drive system will help keep you in check.

A host of subtle styling changes are included and distinctive RS features such as 19 inch wheels, a black honeycomb grille, 20mm lower suspension and 25mm wider track set the Audi RS3 Sportback apart from the standard A3. Inside you’ll find more RS specific kit- a lap timer, boost pressure indicator and black leather RS sports seats to name just a few.

The official debut is expected to take place in March at this year’s Geneva Motor Show with orders being taken from April onwards. When the new Audi RS3 will be available in South Africa has not been confirmed, but sources suggest Q2 or early Q3 of 2017. Expect to part with around R780 000 for the base RS3 Sportback.
