News: Honda Civic Type R
There’s not much to see yet except some heavily cropped images but after the Geneva Motor Show we’ll finally know what the new Honda Civic Type R is going to look like. It’s been a long time since the most anticipated car to come out of Geneva was…a Honda.
You should know by now that the 2015 Honda Civic Type R will bear a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo engine for the first time in Type R history. No exact performance figures but we’re pretty confident it will make no less than 220kW– let’s hope there’s no detuning business on the cards for South Africa’s fuel. There’s no complicated all-wheel drive to add weight, just a limited slip differential splitting power between the front wheels.
Much attention has been paid to the car’s shape to generate stability and downforce at high speed. Stuff you want on a hatch – vents, spoilers, grilles, are not solely for style but lift the Type R to a speed of 270km/h. That’s only 10km/h slower than the 2015 Audi RS3.
Other details revealed about the Honda Civic Type R include the Brembo brakes system with drilled discs that measure at 350mm tucked behind nineteen alloys, unique to the Civic Type R, compliment the muscular package. Among the colours available is Honda’s signature Championship White.
