New lights, grille, bumpers
To be more specific, 3D rear lights and a wider range of colours from flat, metallic and pearlescent. The one you see here is named Orange Power – and you don’t even need to own the GTi to have it. For 2015 the Peugeot 208 is fitted with a wider and more masculine front bumper, with separate fogs, and has deeper gloss black finishes. The ‘Equalizer’ grille, as Peugeot define it, is wider too and chrome and black finished headlamps create a striking two-tone visage. For 2015 the entire Peugeot 208 range will ride on different alloys – from 15 to 17-inch – and even more choice is available as options. Specific models are available with chrome-finished mirror housings.
What’s significant?
The Peugeot 208 range will be expanded by a visually upgraded GT Line and certain models come with new technology like Active City Brake, reversing camera and park assist. Engines are now up to Euro 6 compliance.
Heads-up display is new – a solution for those who complained about not been able to view the dials – and the seven-inch touchscreen gains Mirror Screen compatibility. The GT Line adopts some elements from the GTi like chrome exhaust pipe, flat-bottom wheel, red stitching, 17-inch wheels, swathes of chrome, splashes of gloss black and aluminium pedals.
Saving the best for last is the Peugeot 208 Sport Version. This takes the regular hot Peugeot 208 GTi and lowers the ride height, bolts on 18-inch wheels and firmer bucket seats and then really sings to the enthusiast’s heart with Brembo brakes, Torsen limited slip differential and Michelin Pilot Super Series tyres.
Early verdict.
The Peugeot 208 is currently the brand’s best-selling model and it’s easy to see why. Mirror technology is fast becoming crucial, we ‘thumbs up’ the orange paintwork, and there’s more personalisation and safety than ever before. We never moaned that the compact wheel blocked the gauges but we know many who did, so news of heads-up display should soothe them. Added power in the GT Line would have been nice but the 208 Sport Version of the GTi will satisfy all our needs.
