Mitsubishi ASX EVO could arrive in 2016
The Mitsubishi EVO badge could make a return in a very different bodystyle to what we’re used to. The Mitsubishi ASX (the company’s best-selling model in South Africa) could be launched with a high-performance EVO derivative.
Unlike the concept which was shown at Geneva last month, it would use all-wheel drive and showcase technologies used on the MiEV Evolution which competed at last year’s Pikes Peak event.
Tetsuro Aikawa, boss of Mitsubishi, told Autocar: “In the future, we would like to launch such a vehicle with Evo characteristics. In Japanese, when you pronounce ‘Oh’ [in Evo], it means ‘king’. So we would like to launch this type of car, featuring EV and PHEV technology, which is the ultimate of its kind. ‘EV’ for electric vehicle, ‘O’ for king – Evo.”
As to when we could expect to see a production version of this nobody is quite sure but it would be sometime after 2016.
