New images of Alfa Romeo Stelvio has us rapt

It appears as if Alfa Romeo is on overdrive these days with their second derivative to the Stelvio line already revealed for 2017. Meet the Stelvio First Edition; Alfa’s take on the modern SUV.

What makes this specific model, the First Edition, special is the fact that it’s the first time we see a Stelvio that’s not wearing its aggressive Quadrifoglio pants. Powered by a spicy 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, the First Edition packs some class leading numbers. 206kW of power and 400Nm of torque fed through an eight-speed automatic gearbox ensure the Stelvio First Edition reaches 100km/h from rest in 5.7sec before topping out at 230km/h.

Fuel economy is also pretty decent with Alfa claiming the Stelvio to achieve a healthy 5.9-litres/100km while emitting only 161g/km of CO2.

The First Edition will also feature the ‘Q4’ four-wheel drive system, as seen on the Quadrifoglio, which sends every bit of torque to the rear wheels until the system decides that more grip is needed, and can then split it 50/50 between front and rear.

Massive 20” wheels, aluminium paddle shifters and contrasting brake callipers will differentiate the First Edition from the other Stelvio’s, while less-aggressive air intakes and two large exhausts (instead of four) remind you of the Quadrifoglio at the top of the food-chain.

Leather and wood are abundant in the interior, alongside an 8.8” infotainment system featuring full sat-nav and other driver aids while a 7” TFT display finds its way into the instrument panel.

Standard equipment includes Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) and lane departure warning, a reversing camera and all-round parking sensors, as well as an electrically powered tailgate and automatic lights.

The Stelvio debut is expected at the Geneva motor show in March.
